Theory and Practice
Excellence of learning opportunities and outcomes depends on the quality of the teaching and learning experience. The provision of a high-quality experience for students requires an environment that fosters critical inquiry as well as innovation and creativity. Olivet University International believes in a Theory and Practice model of learning.
The practical environment must build a depth of knowledge that will provide a foundation for later endeavor and support independent learning that will allow a graduate to adapt to new challenges and situations. To achieve these results both areas of knowledge in the classroom and practice in the field must be given high priority.
Olivet University International identifies seven key priorities:
1. Building the Christian faith first as a philosophy of teaching
2. Traditional learning in the classroom to build knowledge
3. Practice in the field to enhance the learning experience
4. Making an explicit link between the theory and practice
5. Supporting coherent and innovative curriculum design with constant assessment
6. Providing spiritual formation activities as a requirement with the curriculum
7. Ensuring a critical reflection and action on the learning environment
These priorities are outlined throughout Olivet’s educational philosophy in all the campuses. A committee on learning has been established for annual reviews of all the campuses.
